New Golden Kamuy Live-Action Series Set for October Premiere
Exciting news for fans of Satoru Noda's manga, Golden Kamuy! The official X (formerly Twitter) account for the live-action film adaptation recently unveiled more cast members, a trailer, and the premiere date for the live-action series adaptation, "Golden Kamuy -Hokkaido Irezumi Shūjin Sōdatsu-hen-" (Golden Kamuy: The Battle for the Hokkaido Tattooed Prisoners Arc). The series is set to debut on October 6.
The directorial team includes Kenji Katagiri, Ken Ochiai, and Yōsuke Satō, working alongside Shigeaki Kubo, who directed the film. Yoshiaki Dewa joins the project as a composer, partnering with Yutaka Yamada, who composed the music for the film.
The live-action film, which premiered in Japan on January 19, made an impressive debut, topping the Japanese box office during its first weekend. It sold 356,000 tickets, earning approximately 533,848,690 yen (about US$3.62 million) in just three days.
Directed by Shigeaki Kubo and produced by CREDEUS, the film features a script by Tsutomu Kuroiwa and music composed by Yutaka Yamada. The film also had Hiroshi Nakagawa and Debo Akibe on board for Ainu supervision, ensuring cultural authenticity. The theme song, "Kagayakerumono" (Those Who Shine), was performed by the Japanese rock group ACIDMAN.
Satoru Noda launched the Golden Kamuy manga in 2014 in Shueisha's Young Jump magazine, concluding the series in April 2022. The manga has been highly successful, inspiring four anime seasons, with production of the final arc already green-lit.
