Transformers to Get an Anime Makeover by Studio Trigger for 40th Anniversary

While Hollywood has brought the Transformers to life on the big screen with blockbuster movies, the iconic robots have also been a staple on television for years with numerous animated series. Recently, Transformers: Earthspark dropped its second season on Paramount+ in June, but it seems that another exciting project is on the horizon.

Earlier this week, renowned anime studio Trigger—famous for hits like Promare, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and Delicious in Dungeon—announced that they are working on something special to commemorate the Transformers’ 40th anniversary. The teaser they released offers quick glimpses of classic characters like Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, and Hot Rod, all depicted in their beloved G1 designs, but with Trigger’s unique twist. Some fans even noticed an appearance by Optimus from Transformers Animated. However, the exact nature of Trigger’s project, whether it’s a celebratory video or something more substantial like an intro for a new game, remains under wraps for now.

The connection between Transformers and animation is nothing new, but this marks the franchise’s third foray into anime, following Transformers: Cybertron in 2005 and the Japan-exclusive Transformers Go! in 2015. On the other hand, Studio Trigger has a solid background in the mecha genre, starting with 2018’s Darling in the Franxx and continuing with their work on the Gridman series. Given Trigger’s impressive track record, fans have every reason to be excited about what the studio will deliver for Transformers’ big 4-0. One thing is certain: whatever they’re cooking up, it’s bound to be visually stunning.
