The beloved action RPG NieR:Automata, a collaboration between Square Enix and PlatinumGames, has achieved an impressive milestone, surpassing 9 million units in combined shipments and digital sales. This announcement was shared on Friday through the franchise's official X (formerly Twitter) account, marking yet another chapter in the game’s remarkable legacy.

The journey to 9 million has been steady and significant. By February, NieR:Automata had already crossed the 8 million mark, a figure that itself followed the impressive milestone of 7.5 million in April 2023. These numbers underscore the enduring appeal of the title, which continues to capture the hearts of players worldwide.

Since its initial release in 2017, NieR:Automata has expanded its reach across multiple platforms. The game originally debuted on the PlayStation 4 in Japan before making its way to North America and Europe in March of the same year. A PC release via Steam followed shortly after, with an Xbox One version launching in 2018.
