Apple’s Rumored Smart Home Hybrid Device Might Launch by 2026

For some time now, rumors have been circulating about Apple's plans to develop a hybrid smart home device. This product, which could blend the features of an iPad and a HomePod, is reportedly in the works and may include Apple’s advanced AI capabilities. The latest buzz offers more insight into this anticipated gadget, including potential launch dates and pricing.

According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is actively progressing with this tabletop device, aiming for a possible release as early as 2026 or 2027. The device is expected to feature a 360-degree robotic arm that can adjust the screen’s position based on the user’s movements, making it a versatile command center for smart homes. It will likely serve as a hub for videoconferencing and remote home security management. The project, known internally as J595, was given the green light by Apple's top executives in 2022 and has recently gained momentum.

While the company is experimenting with a version of iPadOS for this hybrid device, there are indications that Apple has also tested a variation of tvOS. This suggests that they are exploring different operating systems to find the best fit for this innovative product.

Pricing rumors suggest that Apple might set the price around $1,000, though this could change by the time of the official launch. Given the mixed success of the original HomePod, Apple will need to carefully position this new device in the market. The challenge will be convincing consumers to opt for this premium product when a combination of entry-level iPads and HomePod Minis already offers a more affordable alternative for smart home and FaceTime functions. How Apple decides to market this device will be crucial to its success.
