The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep Brings New Connections to the Live-Action Series

Fans of The Witcher have plenty to look forward to as Netflix prepares to release its latest animated movie, Sirens of the Deep, next month. Surprisingly, this upcoming film doesn’t just expand the franchise—it ties directly into the live-action series by incorporating a scene originally intended for the show’s first season.

For those unaware, Sirens of the Deep is considered canon within the Witcher universe, even though it’s animated. The decision to bring back Doug Cockle, the voice of Geralt from the games, rather than Henry Cavill, adds another layer of intrigue. While Cavill’s departure from the live-action series sparked plenty of speculation—ranging from his return as Superman to creative differences—it’s unlikely he’d reprise his role in this animated feature. Nevertheless, the movie aims to maintain strong ties to the series, with writer Mike Ostrowski revealing that a previously unused scene from season one has found its place in the new film.

Set during the events of the first season, the movie explores a turbulent period in Geralt’s relationship with Yennefer. Ostrowski and co-writer Rae Benjamin emphasize that while the original storyline remains untouched, they’ve managed to weave in a “fun little scene” that fans will recognize as a nod to the live-action series. Though specifics about the scene remain under wraps, Anya Chalotra returns as Yennefer, suggesting viewers can expect moments that highlight her complex dynamic with Geralt.

“Geralt can’t let Yennefer go,” Ostrowski notes. “She haunts him. Even if he wanted to move on, he can’t.” This lingering connection promises to bring emotional depth to the movie, giving fans a glimpse into their strained yet enduring bond.

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep debuts on February 11, offering a new chapter for fans to immerse themselves in the world of monsters, magic, and tangled fates.
